Waiting. Anticipating

Waiting. Anticipating.

Sometimes, waiting involves impatience.

We want answers faster, we start feeling anxious.

A cold hand of worry grips us.

We know what's next: fear.

Fear it won't happen. Fear it's too late. Fear it'll never get better.

Where is trust?

Then, turning to the Word, I read:

Philippians 4:6--- Give it to God.

1 John 4:18---Perfect love casts out fear.

Psalm 37:7--- Rest in the Lord and wait patiently for Him.

Lamentations 3:24-26--- The Lord is good to those who wait for Him.

I imagine the watchmen on the wall, waiting and watching for an intruder. Listening in the dark for sounds of possible danger. Straining their eyes for the first hint of dawn to see what shapes or forms might lurk beyond the perimeter.

Waiting and trusting that God has each care in hand, everything resolving in His way, in His determined timing. And as I begin to see in the dawn of realizing that His will must be done, that His purposes are sure, I see the forms of anxiety, worry, and fear begin to slink into the shadows. My soul finds hope in this trust. Hope that confidently waits for the Lord. More than watchmen wait for the first glow of morning.
