It wasn't a first Fathers' Day, but the boys and I bought him a watch. The wrapping. The cards. The wide-eyed joy as he opened their gift. He put the watch on his wrist. And the day continued in celebrating what a great dad he was. The timepiece is still in a box, battery long expired, no longer keeping time. But the memory is still there.
Like every card for this day says: a great dad. A great role model. A man of his word. And he did make good use of his time.
Ephesians 5:15-26 says, "Look carefully then how you walk, not as unwise but as wise, making the best use of the time, because the days are evil."
Yes, time has passed. As a widow, these days can be bittersweet. But I want to remember to make good use of my time. Sharing the comfort, strength, peace, and hope that is found in trusting the Lord, the Defender, the Champion of widows.(Psalm 68:5)
