As a widow, when faced with a task that was his, I sometimes realize my heart's just not in it and the job takes on a heavy reminder.

When I remember our fun weekend getaways, exploring antique malls and fun flea markets, I think: could I reach into these adventures now? My heart just isn't in it.

When faced with a decision, I miss my "sounding board", the one I processed life with for 43 years. My heart searches for what his wisdom would have been.

I made his favorite breakfast: pannukakku--Finnish pancake. First time in the nearly five years he's been gone. It was delicious. I made it again a week later.

That afternoon my granddaughter and I stopped by the local frozen yogurt shop. I had my usual chocolate vanilla swirl. We were enjoying our sweet treat when I looked down: there was a heart in the center where the two flavors swirled.

We both inspected the chance design. Chance? We both wondered at how it had formed. But there was no doubt that a heart was in it!

Our hearts can be deceptive at times, but I must remember that the Lord plans my days and my strength is from Him. My path forward is in His faithful hands. And He is my Defender, my Champion --- He directs my heart.

Psalm 51:10 says. "Create in me a pure heart, O God, and renew a steadfast spirit within me."

Proverbs 3:5-6 says. "Trust in the Lord with all your heart and don't lean on your own understanding, in all your ways submit to Him and He will make your paths straight."
